'Batfish' gymnasium to host International Goalball Tournament
(BEIJING, September 6) -- The batfish-shaped Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium is the representative structure on the school's campus. From afar, the gymnasium's unique wave-like rooftop gives the impression of a gigantic batfish.
The two-hectare gymnasium has an area of 21,900 sq. m. and can seat 4,600 spectators. It will be the competition venue for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Volleyball preliminaries.
From September 13-16, the Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium will host the Good Luck Beijing 2007 International Goalball Tournament, in which Goalball athletes from China, Lithuania, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, the United States, Japan, and Finland will compete.
Next year, the "batfish" gymnasium will also host the Good Luck Beijing 2008 International Goalball Tournament.
