Sweden outplays USA 11-6 to lead in Group B
(Beijing, September 14) In the second day group preliminaries of the 2007 International Goalball Tournament, Sweden and the United States, who won both of their group matches on the opening day, were pitted against each other this afternoon, with Sweden outplaying the United States 11-6 to finish first in Group B. The US team placed second with two wins and one loss.
Although the two teams are well-matched in strength, Sweden gained an upper hand throughout the game after the United States opened the score early in the match. By the end of the first half the score stood at 8-2 in favor of the Swedes.
In the second half, the American team made a substitution but still failed to turn the table. Seeing that they had secured their victory with a comfortable lead of 11-3, the Swedish team seemed relaxed and had their substitutes play for the rest of the time. The American players then lost no time to launch fast attacks and scored three goals in a row. The game ended with Sweden clinching its third straight group win with 11-6.
