Roundup: China and Sweden lead after group heats

(Beijing, September 14) The three-match group heats of the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 International Goalball Tournament came to an end after 12 matches played at the Beijing Institute of Technology Gymnasium on September 14, with China and Sweden placing first in Group A and B respectively.
In Group A, China had two wins and one loss, but as China won over Lithuania the host team placed first in the group, followed by Lithuania. Both Canada and Denmark had one win and two losses, but as Canada defeated Denmark it placed third. Denmark came out at the bottom of Group B. In Group B, it was very clear that Sweden led in the group with three straight wins, followed by the United States (two wins and one loss), Japan (one wins and two losses) and Finland (three losses).
According to the competition regulations, the quarterfinals will be held tomorrow, with China (winner of Group A) vs Finland (last in Group B); Canada (3rd in Group A) vs the United States (2nd in Group B); Lithuania (2nd in Group A) vs Japan (3rd in Group B) and Denmark (last in Group A) vs Sweden (winner in Group A). The four quarterfinal winners will then enter the semifinals, while the four losers will go through a classification round before they are ranked from fifth to eighth.
