Classification: Japan beat Finland for 7th place

(Beijing, September 16) On the last day of the 2007 Goalball Invitational Tournament, Japan took on Finland in a classification game for 7/8 places. After 20 minutes of competition, Japan beat Finland 13-8 to place seventh.
Japan opened the score with a bouncing ball but Finland immediately counterattacked to tie the score. Two minutes later, Japan scored again with a slow, crosscourt throw, followed by another goal on a penalty throw, 3-1. The two teams took turns scoring and the first half ended at 6-3 in favor of the Japanese side.
Thirty seconds into the second half, Japan scored with another attack and Finland did the same in no time. For the following five minutes, Japan kept scoring with varied throws as the Finnish players failed to block the ball with their bodies on five occasions. After 12-4, Finland managed to stop its losing streak by scoring twice in a row, first with a straight throw and then a long one. Soon the Japanese went on to make another goal with a crosscourt ball and turned the score to 13-6. The match ended with the Finnish team breaking the Japanese defense with two more goals. Finland had to be content with the 8th and last place at the tournament.
